Message from our 2009/2010 PTA President:
Welcome Parents, Guardians, and Students! September 2009
It is my pleasure to serve you as HMS PTA President for the second year!!My daughter, Skye, is now in 8th grade and my son, Trevor, is a sophomore at FDR.Both of my children have had great experiences at HMS, and I’m sure your children will as well.I will be very sad to leave this wonderful community at the end of the year.I can’t say enough about the phenomenal volunteer base that we have here at the middle school.Over 120 volunteers offered their valuable time and creative energy to our school last year.
From 6th grade on, our district families are together as one community. We share what we’ve learned from our experiences with our children when they were young, and we move on.The students won’t be the only ones developing new friendships as we all become part of a larger community.Currently, we have folks from all five elementary schools running various events or in leadership positions.Let’s get to know one another and work together to provide the best we can for our kids.
HMS PTA has some very exciting events and programs planned for the 2009/2010 school year!Once again, we are providing science assemblies in the fall and interactive historical assemblies in the second part of the year. These assemblies are specific to the curriculum for each grade level. We are also hoping to add an additional, school-wide assembly this year.
We will be hosting our second annual Family Fun Night in March.Students from our elementary schools, along with their families, will be invited to Haviland to participate in fun, athletic activities run by members of various clubs and sports teams at HMS.Last year, we received great feedback from our district families about this event.
For the third year, HMS will participate in the National PTA Reflections Program. This year’s theme is “Beauty is…”Creative students…please consider participating in this fantastic program.Fliers will be distributed in September and available at the school.Students’ creative work in visual arts, literature, photography, video, dance choreography, and musical composition will be on display at a reception honoring the students in December.
NEW for this year will be the opportunity for parents to order “science display boards” from PTA for their children to use for the science fair. These will be very affordable as PTA will be selling them “at cost” as a convenience for our students.
Please get used to visiting these web pages for all PTA information!!!
Finally, I’d like to wish all of our students a very successful school year!I look forward to seeing everyone.
