Message from your 2010/2011 PTA :

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students!                                                September 8, 2010

            Welcome back to all returning families and a big WELCOME to all new families. We are very excited for the new school year and to be serving as your PTA.

            This year, more than ever, the PTA needs YOUR help. With the state budget crisis, PTA support is more critical than ever before. The PTA raises funds to provide a wide range of educational enrichment programs for the students. Money raised through PTA membership and fundraisers like the successful Yankee Candle are extremely important for these programs. During the past years, the PTA has provided learning opportunities that may have otherwise been unavailable to our children. As the new school year begins, we would once again ask for your support so that we can continue making resource and learning opportunities available to our children.

            For the PTA to be effective and truly representative of the school, everyone’s participation is essential. Many parents feel that they cannot participate in the PTA because they cannot come to meetings or be available during the day. We want everyone to feel that they are part of the Haviland Community. Whether you have 30 minutes or a couple of hours, your ideas, your time, and your talents are truly needed. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help.

            Keep in mind that by volunteering, you will get to enjoy interacting with the kids, become friends with other parents, and accomplish things that truly make a difference. We promise that the time you give to the PTA and the school will be worth your while—and fun! Please consider volunteering, it really does make a difference in the lives of all our children!

FUNDRAISERS:

            Of course, none of this would be possible without your generous support of our fundraisers.  Please consider supporting our Yankee Candle fundraiser which is coming home with your child the first day of school.  This is our largest and most profitable fundraiser.  We count on these proceeds for our most expensive assemblies and programs.  Kelly Variano will be requesting volunteers to help distribute this fundraiser once the orders come in.

MEETINGS:

            Our First PTA meeting is Monday, September 20, at 7:00 pm in the school library.  PTA meetings are usually held the third Monday of the month.  However, please check the PTA web pages on the Haviland website for dates/times as vacations and other events sometimes conflict causing the meeting to be scheduled for a different week.

MEMBERSHIP:

            A membership application is included with the materials coming home the first day.  Membership is a fundraiser!  After paying national and state dues, $3.50 of your $7.00 fee stays with our students at Haviland for all our enrichments programs.  Membership also allows you to vote at meetings; however, meeting attendance is optional.  Membership forms will also be available on Staff Night, at PTA meetings, on the PTA web pages, and in the Main Office.

OUR WEB PAGES:

            Haviland PTA does NOT distribute a hard copy newsletter.  A news brief will be published in the “school newsletter” which goes home with five week progress reports and quarterly report cards.  However, a wealth of information about meetings, fundraisers, and other PTA news is regularly updated on our web pages.  Photos from events are also posted.  Visit us at:
